Ken was diagnosed with Systemic Diffuse Scleroderma in April of 2016 and shortly after became involved with the Scleroderma Society of Nova Scotia. He participated in the Nova Scotia Scleroderma Walk to help raise funds and awareness in 2017 and 2018. He first became involved with SPIN in September 2017, when attending a Scleroderma Conference in Halifax, where he participated in a SPIN round table discussion. In October 2017, he traveled to Montreal to film videos for SPIN-SSLED, and later filmed videos for another SPIN program at the 2018 National Scleroderma Conference in Calgary.
